I was at the theatre so I was eating in the dark. The jerky tasted weird, but not absolutely gross so I thought the brand was just bad. At some point I held it up to the light of the screen and saw white.
Give it to me straight Reddit: am I going to die?

If nothing else let them know your situation with as much detail as possible so they can evaluate their production process and hopefully no one else will have to go through this. I work in food manufacturing and complains about premature spoilage are given extra priority. If some part of our process exposes things to elements what lead to premature spoilage that means we could accidentally get someone sick, or at worst dead.
Also, looks like it's time to start making your own.

You'll be fine. But what I would do is call or email them, maybe they'll send you some free bags of really fresh jerky. I ate some moldy Old Trapper brand jerky once and they sent me like 6 bags of jerky fresh off the line.

Chances are you won't get (too) sick from eating this, mould won't grow without oxygen so it's probably related to the bag being either improperly sealed, the oxygen absorber being spent prior to putting in the bag or a puncture in the pouch itself. Get in touch with the company, give them the batch number and expiry date on the back and tell them to check their retention samples.

Hope you went OK OP, come back and let us know. Also did you have crazy dreams? I once ate moldy bread in a dark kitchen late at night and I'm pretty confident there was something mildly psychedelic in there because those dreams were on par with fever dreams in the intensity stakes.

Don't know if you've heard of Ergot before, but it's a fungus that grows on grains. In the colonial times in early America, a break out of Ergot poisoning and the resulting panic caused the Salem Witch Trials. People poisoned with ergot hallucinate and acted bewitched.. per se

Unfortunately I did not die in my sleep and must accept that I ate handfuls of mold. There were no crazy dreams either so clearly I gotta get on the bread mold!

i kept my jerky in my fridge for 6 weeks now (not air tight), they still look perfect. How old do you think these things are? Or just bad luck with the environment and higher heat?

Probably had some moisture in the bag the fridge is usually dry

I once ate most of a slice of totally moldy pizza and I didn't so much as get a stomach ache, just a touch of PTSD once I realized what I was doing.
(I was in a hurry so didn't look at it right away, plus the Italian sausage covered up the mold taste)
